UNCOVERING THE MYSTERIES

Bible Spiritual Gift

Our Bible speaks of the gifts of the Spirit, which are given to us! believers in Jesus Christ to equip us for a life of service. These gifts are outlined in Romans 12:6-8 and 1 Corinthians 12:7-11.

Romans 12:6-8 says, “Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.” The gifts of the Spirit in Romans 12:6-8 are prophecy, service, teaching, exhortation, giving, leadership, and acts of mercy.

  • Prophecy is the ability to receive and communicate a message from God.
  • Service is the ability to serve others in a sacrificial way.
  • Teaching is the ability to explain and communicate God’s Word.
  • Exhortation is the ability to encourage and motivate others in the faith.
  • Giving is the ability to give generously and sacrificially.
  • Leadership is the ability to lead and guide others with a godly example.
  • Acts of mercy are the ability to show compassion and kindness to those in need.

GIFTS THAT ARE GIVEN!

1 Corinthians 12:7-11 states, “Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.” The gifts of the Spirit in 1 Corinthians 12:7-11 are wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, miraculous powers, prophecy, distinguishing between spirits, speaking in different kinds of tongues, and interpretation of tongues.

  • Wisdom is the ability to make wise decisions.
  • Knowledge is the ability to understand and apply God’s Word.
  • Faith is the ability to trust God even when circumstances look bleak.
  • Healing is the ability to heal physical and emotional ailments.
  • Miraculous powers is the ability to do the impossible.
  • Prophecy is the ability to receive and communicate a message from God.
  • Distinguishing between spirits is the ability to discern between true and false teachings.
  • Speaking in different kinds of tongues is the ability to speak in God’s language.
  • Interpretation of tongues is the ability to interpret what has been spoken in tongues.

The gifts of the Spirit are given to all believers in Jesus Christ to equip and empower them for a life of service. If you have received Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you too can receive these spiritual gifts. Pray for the Holy Spirit to fill you and to guide you in using your gifts for the glory of God.

  • Ephesians 4:11-13 - "And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ."
  • 1 Peter 4:10-11 - "As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ."
